A Wedding in the U.K. Had 95 Bridesmaids

Kudos to this lady for knowing eight dozen bridesmaids would be one too many.

Weddings can be deeply personal—and deeply complicated—when it comes to who makes the guest list and who gets a starring role. But one bride in Northern Ireland took inclusivity to a whole new level.

Kathryn Stewart, a dance instructor, recently tied the knot in a ceremony that featured an astonishing 95 bridesmaids!

What began as a modest bridal party of seven or eight quickly ballooned into a small army once Kathryn made the decision to invite all of her students to join in.

The unexpected expansion happened because Stewart runs a dance school, and after some deliberation, she couldn’t bring herself to leave anyone out. Her solution? Invite the entire group to stand beside her on her big day.

Were there also 95 groomsmen?

Hahaha…. no. Her fiancé, Jack, managed to rein it in a little more than she did and kept it at just eight groomsmen. A pretty lopsided bridal party – but if any of those groomsmen were single, I bet they liked their odds.

All told, 103 people were in the wedding party out of 250 total guests. So, if you got an invite to their wedding, there was a better than 40% chance you were also in their wedding.

Yes, they all walked down the aisle.

Which sounds like a nightmare logistically, but it went smoother than you’d expect. Stewart credited her dancers’ stage training for keeping things orderly. “They know how to get in formation and organize themselves very quickly,” she said.

So, this must have been a record, right?

While the size of her bridal squad might sound record-breaking, it actually fell well short of the Guinness World Record. That honor belongs to Tina Ackles, an American woman who had a fully absurd 168 bridesmaids at her 2015 wedding in Tampa, Florida.

So much wasted fabric! You just know they’re never wearing those bridesmaids’ dresses again.
